Efficiency Increase with Horizontal Milling Machines
Horizontal milling machines and machining centers offer numerous advantages, particularly in terms of efficiency. A key benefit is the ability to mount workpieces on horizontal fixtures. This facilitates handling and loading for the operator, leading to more efficient workflows and reduced downtime.
Challenges for Skilled Personnel with Horizontal Milling Machines
Despite the benefits, these systems also present specific challenges. The spindle positioning and the associated coolant spray make it difficult for production personnel to have a direct view of the machining process. The horizontal spindle never allows a view of the backside of the machining process. Additionally, the complex machine geometries make it impossible for the operator to monitor other areas, such as the pallet changer, at the same time.
Solution with UYAR Camera Systems
The UYAR camera systems were developed to address these difficulties with horizontal milling machines. Two VisionLine RWC cameras in the machining area provide the operator with full visibility of both the front and back of the spindle. This significantly simplifies the setup process and saves time, as it eliminates the need to constantly open and close machine doors and check the positioning of the tool relative to the workpiece. With UYAR camera systems, the machinist always has an overview of the machining process during setup, enhancing both efficiency and safety by preventing machine crashes.
Enhanced Monitoring in Series Production
In series production, a 43" monitor with PbP (Picture by Picture) functionality positioned near the machine control provides the operator with a comprehensive overview of the entire machining center. The pallet changer can also be equipped with UYAR camera systems to enable early intervention in case of errors. Additionally, the tool changer is monitored using the UYAR camera system.
Optimized Insights During Loading Process
To allow the operator insights into the machine room during the loading process, the loading area is equipped with an additional monitor. The video signal from the machine room is split and can be transmitted to the second monitor alongside the main monitor.
Network-Based Manufacturing Process Monitoring
Additional modules like the UYAR encoder make it possible to feed manufacturing processes into the company network and make them accessible to production planning. With a network video recorder, manufacturing processes can be recorded to facilitate subsequent root cause analysis in the event of unmanned production disruptions or interruptions.
Time savings
Reduction of time for setup processes and position checks. Enables continuous monitoring of the machining process without interruptions from opening and closing the machine doors.
Efficiency increase
Simplified setup process, as the position of the tool and workpiece can always be monitored.
Safety enhancement
Early intervention in case of errors through monitoring of pallet and tool changers.
Increased visibility
Complete view of the front and back of the spindle through cameras in the machining area.
Network-based process monitoring
Integration of manufacturing processes into the company network for production planning. Recording of manufacturing processes for subsequent root cause analysis in the event of disruptions or interruptions.
